The Scam-Proof Rider: Why We Don't "PayPal and Pray"
If you’ve spent any time in adventure riding forums or Facebook groups, you’ve seen the "Scammer Alert" posts.
A guy gets "sold" a pristine set of Mosko Moto panniers. He’s told to send the money via "PayPal Friends & Family" to avoid fees. He hits send. The seller vanishes. The money is gone. The panniers never existed.
It’s the oldest trick in the book, and it’s the reason many riders refuse to buy gear from anyone they haven't met in person.
At The ADV Exchange, we think you should be able to buy gear from a rider three borders away with the same confidence as buying from your best mate. That’s why we built our entire platform around Stripe Escrow.
No More Gambles
When you buy on the Exchange, you aren’t wiring money into the void. You are placing it into a secure digital vault managed by Stripe—one of the world’s largest and most secure payment processors.
Here is exactly how the "Scam-Proof" process works:
The Lockdown: You click "Buy" and pay for the gear. Your money doesn't go to the seller yet. It doesn't go to me, either. It sits in a secure Escrow account.
The Verified Dispatch: The seller receives a notification and a prepaid DHL shipping label from us. Because we provide the label, we have the master tracking number. We know exactly when that package moves.
The Arrival: The DHL guy drops the box at your door. You open it. You verify it’s the gear you paid for.
The Release: Only after the delivery is confirmed (and you've had a chance to inspect the item) is the money released to the seller’s bank account.
What if something goes wrong?
On a standard marketplace, if a seller sends you a box of bricks, you’re in for a three-month battle with your bank.
On The ADV Exchange, if there’s a dispute, the money stays locked in Escrow until we (the humans behind the site) review the DHL tracking data and the photos to make it right. The scammer never gets paid. Period.
Why We Charge a Fee
We’ll be straight with you: A secure Escrow system and fully tracked DHL Express shipping aren't free. That’s why we charge a platform fee of 18% to the seller + a flat €20 to the buyer.
When you pay that fee, you aren't just "buying gear." You are buying the total elimination of anxiety. You’re buying the guarantee that you will either get the gear you paid for, or you’ll get your money back.
In a world of "PayPal and Pray," we chose a better way.
